Rate Hearing for Time of Use set for February 10th Light Board Meeting
Category: Uncategorized | Posted On: February 4, 2025
Background
Residential Time of Use Rate A TOU (TOU rate) is currently available to a limited number of customers in order to evaluate a pricing structure where the cost of electricity varies depending on the season and time of day. The Municipal Light Board will be reviewing possible adjustments to this rate at their next meeting.
Belmont Light reviews rates every 3-5 years as is industry standard. Over the past year we have been working with Daymark Energy Advisors to analyze our costs and rate design. Their analysis of Belmont Light’s TOU rate found:
- Summer peak hours could be shortened by 1 hour (starting at 2pm instead of 1pm), giving customers one additional hour of non-peak use for things like cooling their home.
- That the current TOU rate doesn’t accurately reflect the allocated costs of the program.
Based on these findings, the Light Board will review a proposed TOU rate at a rate hearing at the:

Proposed Changes
Below is an overview of two potential rates with changes from the current TOU in bold. Rate 2 shortens the summer on-peak hours; Rate 1 does not. The Light Board may consider additional options.

The energy buyback rate (solar buyback) would be equal to the energy charges less the distribution charge.
