What is Public Power Week?
Public Power Week is a nationwide event held the first full week of October to recognize the importance of publicly owned electric utilities. Unlike investor-owned utilities, which are focused on profits, public power systems are operated by the communities they serve. Our mission is simple: to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective energy while reinvesting in our community.
Each year during Public Power Week, we celebrate the unique value public power brings to families, businesses, and communities. From supporting local economies to offering lower rates and a strong commitment to sustainability, public power utilities make a difference every day. This week is all about recognizing the often-unseen efforts that ensure our lights stay on—while also learning how you can make the most of your energy use at home.
